HALLELUJAH!! It’s over!

kdrama28

You know that feeling of relief you get when you finish taking care of some major business that has been clogging you up for a while and all that’s left is a pile of crap? Well that’s the exact feeling I got after watching the finale to Passionate Love. Is it completely disgusting? You’re damn right. Was I contemplating even putting that line in? I don’t even want to know what kind of person would be comfortable talking about poop on her blog, but hey who am I to judge right? In this case I’m relieved and Passionate Love is the crap! See, it describes my feelings perfectly!:)

I don’t know how many of you guys have watched the drama Passionate Love and were crazy enough to even stick with it after 47 episodes. I believe I deserve in award for this…or to be put in a mental institution. It’s a sickness really. I hate leaving anything unfinished, even when it’s this torturous. Does that make me a masochist? Ok maybe I’m getting carried away here, back to the drama!

In short, Passionate Love is a melodrama that was supposed to be about 2 star crossed lovers overcoming many obstacles. The main one being the male leads father killed the female leads entire family. Let me emphasize the SUPPOSED TO. This drama ended up taking a huge turn, no wait scratch that, I mean it crashed through the guard rail, rolled down a mountain, then drove off a cliff…..then exploded.

kdrama29

Let me see, where can I start so you guys can see I’m not exaggerating. Ah ok, I’ll start with the leads: Kang Moo Yeol & Han Yoo Jung. I’ve never seen more boring characters in my life. Their short lived romance is pathetic and they pretty much just cry the entire time. Which brings on the question of who the hell got to pick the title name? Where is this passionate love you speak of? Where?!? At first Moo Yeol falls in love with Yoo Jung’s older sister only to have his father kill her and her father in the attempt to steal his grandfathers company. They later fall for each other without knowing and then break up when things start to slowly be revealed. Sure, it seems like an ok premise and it wouldn’t have been so bad…if they actually ended up together in the end! Yes people, we have finally found a drama where the main couple doesn’t end up together. Their so called passionate love is thrown away in a ridiculously rushed finale.

Let me explain.  Through out the entire drama, even up to the ending episodes, the main couple supposedly still loved each other. The female lead ended up getting married to another man in the middle out of sympathy and she supposedly never really loved him. Then in the finale they end up giving up on their love and settling for the other people who they have no feelings for. Uggh I just can’t with this one.

There are just so many things about this drama I hate but if I put it all up here this post will be long enough to be made into a book. So I decided to just sum of my feelings with character screen caps and side notes…enjoy:)

kdrama24

One of the very few things that kept me watching this drama was Hong Nan Cho’s outfits. I don’t know who her fashion designer was but who over you are thank you for keeping me entertained. Here she is wearing some kind of bedazzled neck balls.

kdrama25

Ugggh this is pretty much his catch phrase. This boy is just plain irritating.

kdrama26

Her reaction when she heard she was stuck with this this character for 47 episodes.

kdrama27

Hi my name is Moo Yeol. I’m a crazy obsessed man child who can’t get over a girl even if she married my brother and is pregnant with his child. Any takers?

Ok rant over. Moral of this post: STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM PASSIONATE LOVE!!!

First Impression: Secret Love Affair

kdrama23

So I have recently picked up a new kdrama to watch called Secret Love Affair. It’s a given with its name but just to give you guys a few more information about it I’ll give you guys a short synopsis. It’s about 2 adults having an affair which threatens to destroy both their lives. One a successful arts foundation director(in her 40’s I believe) and the other a gifted piano prodigy in his 20’s.

Just by reading the description it piqued my interest. Very few kdramas have affairs in it to begin with and this one revolves around it. What’s even crazier is that they throw in a huge age gap as well. Didn’t know how they were going to make that work, but it got me very curious.

I have just finished watching episode 3 and all I have to say is “wow”. It has gone far beyond my expectations. My biggest concern for this drama was that I didn’t want them to make their relationship just about sex. I have seen many Korean movies with similar concept and they are mostly based on physical attraction. No real chemistry just raging hormones. But so far that isn’t he case in this drama. You can really tell the leads have this amazing connection through music and it’s really amazing to watch.

What really blew me away was the main male lead’s (Yoo Ah In) acting. His emotions when he plays the piano are spot on and the passion that he portrays toward the female lead (Kim Hee Ae) is very believable.

I don’t want to start spoiling things so I’ll stop here for now. All that I have left to say is that if you haven’t watched it yet you definitely should give it a try. I’m hooked!

To Re-watch or not to Re-watch?

Why the shower scene you ask? Because this post is about making a decision. Guys do all the thinking in the shower in kdramas:)

Why the shower scene you ask? Because this post is about making a decision. Guys do all the thinking in the shower in kdramas:)

That is the question that has been constantly plaguing my mind lately. I’m sure I’m not alone either. As a fellow kdrama addict it’s a given that we are sometimes faced with the decision to either start a new drama or re-watch one of our favorites. Sure, it might be easy to re-watch an old favorite when nothing new catches our attention but this isn’t necessarily the best choice.

Let me explain.

For many of us kdrama fans, there are always certain dramas that hold a special place in our hearts. It could be because of certain scenes, favorite characters, or maybe just a well written story. Whatever the case, we have our favorites. And as time goes on, sometimes you get the urge to re-watch some of these, but I just want to point out that this decision needs to be made with caution.

Some memories are better left as beautiful memories!

I have chosen to re-watch a couple of my favorite dramas without giving it much thought and have acquired a handful of tainted memories as a result. What I mean is that these dramas that I’ve thought so high of at first are not as I remembered them to be.

Since I have already seen them, I knew what was going to happen so I found myself paying more attention to the other parts of the drama. I kept getting disappointed with what I found. The OST wasn’t up to par, some scenes were cut short or too long, the drama started to drag. These were just some of the comments that popped into my head as I re-watched some of my favorites.

To sum up my thoughts, I really regret re-watching my favorites. My beautiful memory has become now become fuzzy. Sometimes to the point where I ask myself why I even liked it so much in the first place.

So for all of you guys who are tempted to re-watch an old favorite my advice would be to skip it. If you want it to remain as your favorite at least. Sometimes a good memory is better left at just that…a memory.
What do you guys think? Have you ever re-watched a drama and still loved it as much as you did the first time? Leave your comments below!

Kdrama Recommendations: Romantic Comedy

kdrama21

I don’t know where this is from but doesn’t it just scream Romantic Comedy?

First off I would like to thank Aimee for giving me the idea to recommend a couple of my favorite kdramas by genre.

Today I’ll be doing rom coms since those are my favorites. Some are still airing, but I will specify which ones as I know some of you don’t like to wait a whole week for new episodes. Also keep in mind these are in no particular order and spoiler free! Enjoy!

1. My Love From Another Star

kdrama17

Synopsis: An alien gets dropped off on earth during the Joseon era to study life on the planet. While he is there he falls in love with a widow and unfortunately has to witness her tragic death. 400 years later he comes across a Hallyu star who turns out to be his lost loves reincarnation.

Now as most of you who read my other posts can guess, I absolutely love this drama. Everything about it is just amazing to me. The writing, actors, production, etc. This drama has gained huge ratings and tons of fans, and they are well deserved. The romantic story between the leads is amazing, every episode will give you something to laugh at, and the villain will give you the chills. What more can you ask for?

At first I was a little hesitant to start this drama. I mean the whole plot sounds a little wacky to work, but it does! And beautifully I might add. I also wasn’t particularly fond of the actors, which play a big role in which dramas I choose. I’ve never seen Jeon Ji Hyun in anything and the only big role that I’ve seen Kim Soo Hyun in is as the lead in Dream High. I even found his character extremely annoying.

Even with all these hesitations I decided to give it a shot. And I’m so glad I did:) The actors do an amazing job of portraying their characters and you will fall in love with each and every one of them. My favorite is Cheon Song Yi. Let me warn you though, she will seem a little annoying at first but trust me she will grow on you quick.

That being said you will not regret watching this. Trust me just watch it:)

2. Emergency Couple (still airing)

kdrama18

Synopsis: A divorced couple is brought together in the emergency room where they are both interns in the same hospital.

This drama is like the Korean version of Greys Anatomy. The whole reason I decided to pick up this drama is because of my love for the 2 leads. I love both Song Ji Hyo and Choi Jin Hyuk. They are both amazing actors and I was really looking forward to seeing Jin Hyuk with a less serious character. I really hope he gets more of these kinds of characters because I absolutely fell in love with the man because of his character in this drama.

Emergency couple is absolutely hilarious. Some scenes aren’t the usual type of comedy you normal see in kdramas either. Ughh I’m struggling not to say this since I want this to be spoiler free, but just watch out for the CPR scene. When you watch it you’ll know what I’m talking about;) I was left in tears! (of laughter just to clarify lol)

The special effects team is nothing to laugh at either. Since the setting is in a hospital of course there are going to be some gory scenes but I didn’t expect them to be that great since it was a comedy. I was pleasantly surprised though. The patient’s wounds look very realistic and I end up learning a little about the medical field with each episode. So I guess it’s also educational?

Anyways a very good drama so far. Strongly recommend it.

3. Answer Me 1994

answer me

Synopsis: Answer Me 1994 is a sequel to the earlier kdrama Answer Me 1997. As in the previous drama, the story is set in the 90’s around a group of friends as they discover friendships, hardships, and love.

Again I was putting this drama off for a while. But this time it was for a more shallow reason….their clothes. “Did you seriously just say that?” you ask. Why yes, yes I did. I mean look at them! I’m not a fan of 90’s fashion and seeing these beautiful actors in those horrendous rags they call clothes was not something I was looking forward to.

But with seeing all the good reviews it has been getting I decided to pick it up. Again so glad I did:)

Go Ah Ra’s character has completely stolen my heart. This is the first work I have seen her in and she has made me a fan within the first episode. She really becomes Na Jung and the rest of the cast is nothing to laugh at either. Well actually I take that back….I can’t really say that since they are all freaking hilarious but you know what I mean.

This drama is what they are refering to when they say “laughter is the best medicine”.  Just be warned the love triangle guessing game will a bit frustrating, but other than that great drama.

4. Flower Boy Ramen Shop

kdrama19

Synopsis: A university student is studying for her civil service exam in hopes of becoming a teacher. She starts working at an all boys high school as a student teacher and piques the interest of  Cha Chi Soo: an arrogant heir to a huge conglomerate. When her father dies she is left to run his ramen shop with the man he left it to. Cha Chi Soo along with 2 others end up working there as well and love/comedy ensues!

Stars Jung Il Woo. Enough said…moving on!

Ok not really. As much as I think that should be enough reason for anyone to watch a drama….a lot of you don’t know who he is. What a shame:( So I guess I’ll give a couple more reasons to watch this drama for those few who are unlucky enough to not have come across this gift to mankind.

Let me start by stating the fact that this is a noona romance. For those who don’t know, it means a younger guy older girl relationship. But for those who don’t like these types of romances don’t cross it off your list just yet. Yes, I found it a little creepy as well that a high school student and university student were interested in each other, but the way they came across it worked really well. It’s not creepy at all, trust me.

Our lead female character is another reason to watch this. Lee Chung Ah is amazeballs. She’s strong, speaks her mind, and doesn’t take crap from anyone. Oh and she’s also freaking hilarious. I’m tempted to re-watch this for a 3rd time as I’m typing this. It’s that good people!

Needless to say you will love all the characters in this drama. Well almost….my exception would be Kim Ba Wool’s girlfriend. I just wanted to drop kick her the whole time.

5. Greatest Love

kdrama20

Synopsis: An ex girl group member whose popularity has plummeted and the most popular action star in Korea end up falling in love.

If you are a fan of the Hong Sisters then this drama is right up your alley. I would say that this is one of their best works in my opinion and has become one of my favorites.

I don’t really know what to say about this drama other than it’s a really cute story and Cha Seung Won’s performance will leave you laughing/crying. Although I initially came her because of Gong Hyo Jin, Seung Won’s character is the one who stole my heart. Ding dong!<<<you’ll get it when you watch it:) And you must!

These are just a couple of my rom com faves. I’ll do more next post or a different genre. Leave any comments below!:)

Questions from Kdramadreamer:

1- Which manga, anime, book or popular movie would you like to see turned into a Kdrama?

Ok so this may be a little weird and out there I think I would have to give this one to the 1st  book that got me into reading: The Scorpion King.  Back when I was in high school my English teacher had the class split into groups and pick a book to read and do a project on it. Now even though I could care less about reading(like any usual high schooler), this book completely changed my perspective. I fell in love with reading after reading this book. If you haven’t read this book I strongly recommend you do. To make it short it’s about the life of a young clone as he struggles for his freedom. Yes it’s sci fi but I think it would really make an excellent kdrama if you throw in more romance lol.

2- If you were asked to play a part of an English actor in a Kdrama, who would you want to act with?

Definitely Jung Il Woo. I just love that man to death;)

3- Which older actor who usually plays a supporting role do you really enjoy watching?

Hands down Kim Jae Wook. His performance in Who Are You blew me away.

4- If you could kiss any Kdrama actor, who would it be?

Is this really a question?!?! So many options! But if I had to pick one I guess it would have to be Jung Il Woo again:) Those lips tho! haha

5- Who is your favorite Kdrama actor who is also a Kpop star?

I’m not really into the whole kpop thing so I don’t know which actors are in which group but I recently found out Lee Hong Ki is in a band.

6- Can you speak Korean?

Not unless you count the little words I pick up from Kdramas? Oppa! Saranghae! Bokcha! <<< just to name a few lol, But I do want to learn really bad.

7- When was the last time you watched something that wasn’t Korean or Tawainese or Japanese?

I went to the movies a couple days ago to watch the Hunger Games 2, but that’s the first in a looooong time haha

8- Have you made a lot of friends through blogging?

Well I don’t know if I would say friends, but I have people who encourage me to keep blogging. Sooo kind of?

9- Do you think your Kdrama obsession will cool down, stay the same or get worse?

I think I’m at the worst point right now since I recently quit my job. It has completely taken over my life:/

10- On average, how many hours do you spend a week watching Kdramas?

I don’t even want to say. It’s too embarrassing lol

And now my questions to you guys!

1. Who is your biggest kdrama crush and why?

2. What was your first kdrama you have ever watched?

3. Are you out of the kdrama closet?( do people know of your obsession with Asian dramas?)

4. How did you get into blogging?

5. If you could hang out with a kdrama character who would it be?

6. If you could kill one kdrama character who would it be and why?

7. Have you ever tried making Korean food after watching a kdrama?

8. Have you ever been to Korea?

9. Is there anything that annoys you about kdramas?

10. What other shows/movies do you like that aren’t Korean?
